20 Times Square

New York, NY

The developers of the Marriott Edition Hotel in Times Square, NYC reached out to Therma-HEXX to engineer a solution for heating and cooling exterior rooftop spaces that partially convert into interior spaces depending upon weather and seasons.

The project is a rooftop terrace with pedestal mounted stone pavers that have three heating and cooling zones. Two of them have permanent tented areas with fold-away doors/walls. The different interior / exterior areas required the ability to be independently heated or cooled.

Therma-HEXX designed a ThermaPANEL system that was able to be supported on pedestals while accurately routing all of the necessary piping, manifolds, irrigation and electrical systems beneath the surface and between the pedestals. Our engineers worked closely with the landscape architect, tent engineers, and electrical contractors to coordinate penetrations through the pavers and ThermaPANEL layout for irrigation to individual planters, the tent structural columns, and electrical for lighting and speakers.

The end result is the most innovative, state of the art, comfortable, indoor/outdoor new restaurant/bar in Times Square. The four-season use allows the owners to maximize their seatings regardless of weather conditions.
